Pope Francis, RIP

We pray for Pope Francis; a Pope who has left a vital and significant legacy of Catholic Social Teaching, as well as offering a powerful example of servant leadership, full of mercy, joy and hope.

On Saturday 26th April the Pope’s funeral Mass will be celebrated at St Peter’s. For those who would like to watch and pray together the arrangements here will be:

08.40    Parish Hall opens, with the broadcast of the funeral on the big screen

09.00    We will watch and pray together the Opening Rite of the Mass, then the Liturgy of the Word (Readings, Gospel, Homily, Intercessions) all broadcast from Rome.

At the time of the Liturgy of the Eucharist we will move into the church, and pray the Eucharistic Prayer, then receive Holy Communion.

After that we will return to the hall for the final part of the Pope’s Requiem Mass, then the procession to St Mary Major’s church. There will be simple refreshments available as we watch the procession.

It is hard to know exact timings; we expect it will conclude between 11am and 12noon; the Pope has requested a simpler funeral Mass, but there will of course be vast crowds, and it is a solemn occasion.
